Cheryl's Day Care

Parents always ask what type of a daycare I have. Cheryl's Day Care combines the best of both daycare worlds—the home daycare along with a pre-school learning environment.  I have a large, bright, comfortable daycare room within my home that appeals to many parents.  I also offer learning that you find in a preschool.  This is an important benefit that parents are looking for when interviewing daycare providers.

By providing daycare out of my home, I can offer learning and activities  at a much lower cost than a traditional daycare center. The children who attend Cheryl's Day Care feel as if they are part of my extended family and often come back to visit when they have grown much older.

I follow a daily schedule with time provided for structured and non-structured activities for the children that are age appropriate.   A copy of our daily schedule is available on this website.   We do a lot of "take home" activities and crafts.  The children are so excited at the end of the day to show their parents what they worked on during the day.

Outdoor activities and free play are planned daily, weather permitting.  Safe educational toys and books for all ages are provided  to children of all ages. We have large muscle equipment, musical toys, dolls, blocks, stuffed animals, push and pull toys, and ot her items to encourage role playing and pretend play.

Time is also spent each day in structured, learning activities for preschoolers. This time includes such activities as reading stories, learning the calendar, learning new words, practicing printing their names, using a scissor, singing, coloring, playing games, exercising, puzzles, using play dough, painting, crafts, and learning numbers, letters, and colors.

Some weeks include special activities and craft projects to celebrate holidays and other special days.  We have weekly themes that correspond to different times of the year or season.  I always include upcoming themes in my monthly newsletter.  These themes teach a variety of subjects including cooperation, dental health, poison awareness, manners, exercise, nutrition, science, germs, plants, the 5 senses, self-esteem, a variety of animals, and many other topics.

I also teach appropriate social skills to the children.  These are some of the things that I feel are important; sharing, playing fair, no hitting,  put things back where you found them, cleaning up, don’t take things that aren’t yours, tell the truth, don’t swear, wash your hands, follow directions, please and thank you, don’t run or yell inside, remember to take turns, and when to say you’re sorry.

I provide a "home away from home" atmosphere for your child. I do many of the same things you would do at home.  I rock them when they cry, praise them when they succeed, encourage them to try new things, explore the unknown, feed them when they’re hungry, and give them lots of hugs.

I encourage anyone looking for daycare to stop by for a personal daycare visit so you can see for yourself what Cheryl's Day Care has to offer you and your child.

I have passed all the necessary background checks and home safety inspections required by the State of Minnesota to retain my in-home daycare license.

I am CPR and First Aid Certified.  Each year, I attend numerous hours of daycare continuing education to stay current with new curriculum ideas, child development, behavior issues, and safe food handling and preparation.

I participate in a USDA Government Food Program which provides healthy, balanced meals for all the children in care.

I also participate in Surge Support Child Care Program that offers occaisional child care for Amry/National Guard military families.  Please contact the Child Care Resource and Referral office at  651-290-9704 if you are eligible to register for this program.

Cheryl's Day Care is a clean, comfortable in home daycare facility, providing parents with high quality childcare for their children.   Parents can feel comfortable knowing their children are being well cared for while they are away at work or school.

Cheryl's Day Care has been licensed in Washington County since March 2003 and Cheryl has over 14 years of child care experience.

The large comfortable daycare room has a wide assortment of age appropriate toys, games, and activities for children of all ages.

All activities are planned and are tailored to the ages of the children in care on any given day.

Proper food handling and preparation guidelines are followed for each meal.  We follow strict guidelines for sanitation of eating utensils, food surfaces, toys, and bedding materials. The children and I follow proper handwashing guidelines thoughout the day.

Cheryl's Day Care has a separate rest area for naps and also provides portable cribs for the smaller children to use during nap time.  Older children have mats and pillows for quiet time.

Cheryl's Day Care has smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors installed throughout the home.  There are fire extinguishers located on each level of the home.

The backyard play area is completely fenced in with locks on all gates.   There are several  Step Two play structures and a swing set in the outdoor play area suitable for all ages.

I use standard child proofing techniques in my home such as outlet covers and safety gates in the daycare area.

The daycare entrance is kept locked at all times, except during  normal drop off and pickup times.

Parents are greeted at the door at drop off and pick up times by the provider.   At the end of the day, I encourage the children to share stories of their day and what they did with their parents.  I also take this time to let  parents know what their child has accomplished that day.

We do a lot of "take home" activities and crafts.  This is a way for children to "show" their parents what did at daycare that day.

We celebrate birthdays, holidays, and other special occaisions for the children throughout the year.  Photographs of the children enjoying various activities and other celebrations are posted in our daycare room.

I encourage open communication between  my daycare parents and myself regarding their children, my policies, and any other concerns they may have.

Parents are welcome to drop in anytime during the day, when their child is in care.
